Today’s Technology Trends, or, “What Do I Do With That?”

In the theme of wrapping up projects, I gave my last presentation before baby today. The next one I have scheduled isn’t until October. I had a good time, and am glad to have made it through all my biggest commitments before the arrival of the little guy.

The presentation was for the 19th Annual NC Serials Conference in Chapel Hill. As a technology/instruction librarian I hadn’t been to this conference before so it was entirely new to me: a lot of new people, different conference set-up and style than the other (local) ones I’d been to, and very nice of them to have invited me to speak. It was a great event and group of people!

My goal with this presentation was to do some theory and some specifics while contextualizing it all to make it relevant. I also tried to present information along the spectrum so that the techiest and not so techy in the group would all still get something out of it.

I also attempted to present tools that could help anyone (which means a different set than those I would share with strictly public service folks or at a technology conference), so I’m hoping they were useful to this group. Afterward several folks came up and said there were specific ones they were interested in, so at least with those folks, I struck a good balance!

So, all in all, it was a good presentation to end up with. Now I’m in Winston-Salem for the foreseeable future. Good thing I stopped by A Southern Season and stocked up on some tea on the way home. :)
